Edulight Magazine's Student for April

STUDENT’S CORNER
MY MOTHER
My mother, my good mother
I love my mother,
My mother carried me for nine
Months in her womb,
My mother gave birth to me

She breast fed me for two years,
She was my first teacher
She taught me about God to fear
And respect
She taught me everything in life

My mother, carried me on her back
She gave me all I needed,
Oh may you live forever,
My mother, my sweet mother… NGOKA NGOZI, JSS2. JOLIBUKS HIGH SCHOOL, LAWANSON.

JUST ONE!
One song can spark a movement
One step can start a journey
One vote can change a nation
One smile can begin a friendship
One candle can wipe out darkness
One tree can start the forest
One moment of skill can change a game
One drop of water can turn to an ocean
One flower can make a dream
One life is all God needs to make a difference
In this generation and that one life can be yours
Just one life, live it well! ... SANUSI DOLAPO, SS1A. ROYAL STAR COMP COLLEGE, GOVI CENTER.

BLACK AND BEAUTIFUL
I am black and like it
It is a gift of nature
God has given me a black colour
I must maintain it
Because to bleach my colour
Is to reject the gift of nature
And to become a fool
Call me black and I will answer
Say it loud and I will forever smile
Because I am black and beautiful.

PATIENCE
Patience is the ability to endure
Suffering, pain and discomfort
Without much complain
We must be patient in all we do
Because a patient person takes turns.

A patient person is able
To control him/herself
And does not do things
In a hurry.

Some people think we are weak
Or afraid when we do not fight back
When people annoy or offend us.
It is very wrong because we show maturity
And strength when we exercise patience.

DREAM
Every student has a dream. Some want to be nurses, medical doctors, engineers and lawyers, while others prefer to be accountants, teachers and actors. All these great dreams can be achieved through the study of relevant subjects taught in school. In doing so, it is important to know the secrets behind studies and understanding.
Secret: Means the best or only way of doing or achieving something that many do not know about.
Studies: Is to engage in the activity of learning or gaining knowledge from books, especially with serious reading.
Understanding: Having a deep knowledge of what you have been taught.
YEBOAH ANITA, SS1 (SCIENCE). BAPTIST BOWEN COLLEGE, ITIRE.

SEX EDUCATION
As we all know, Aids is real. It is your responsibility to keep your instrument of office for one appointed manager. Do not turn it into a public utility. For the boys, don’t be victims of circumstance when they finally end up in your bosom like fairly used cars in the hands of their owners. Do not break any seal yourself before striking a deal. Not only that, finally always remember that AIDS is real.
OKEKE EBUKA, JSS3A. TIMI COMP COLLEGE, IJESHA.

CORNER OF HOPE (HEALTH/ADDICTIONS)
“My friends smoke………… how can I be part the group?” It’s a scary world. At school, on television and next door, we see people struggling with drugs and alcohol addictions, AIDS and terminal diseases. But God doesn’t want your life to be hopeless. Drugs alcohol and cigarettes are a threat to the joy. It may seem like the cool thing to do, but being cool has a “price tag.” Drugs and alcohol can cause brain damage, smoking leads to lung cancer, and they are both addictive. May be  one of these addictions already had control over your life. The good news is that God is more powerful He will help you to break always from the prison of addiction once you call on Him.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Neck and neck: The human neck has exactly  the same number of neck bones as the Giraffe, even though a Giraffe’s neck is 18 times longer!
It keeps on pumping: The human heart beats about 100,000times, and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood through 100,000 miles of organic tubing in one day.
Now hear this……. Dogs and other animals can hear ultrasonic sounds, which are far above the frequency that humans hear. To measure frequency, scientists use the hertz unit. One hertz means one vibration per second. Most people can hear sounds with frequencies from above 20 to 20,000 hertz. Many animals are able to hear frequencies far above, as well as below human range.
